Hello -
It has been 7 years since I last posted a update. Life has been flying by.
I have been busy living and working full time. I have still been making things around the house and in my shop when I can. Tools are in my hands everyday, thankfully.
These 1/10 scale hammers were started back in 2017 when I did the large run of 1/4 scale hammers. One late night back then, I attempted to rough out a 1/10 scale head on the Photograph machine just to see if it would work out. It came out better than I expected, so I roughed out a few more heads to finish one day. Years later, I set out to finish them before I started any new major projects. Well, I just finished them after a year or more of picking away at them on nights and weekends.
I do not typically work this small, and I will not be making these ever again. They took so much more time than the 1/4 scale hammers. There is so little material to manipulate, every move could potentially destroy it. I did just about all of the finishing work under a stereo microscope to maintain crisp details in closeup photos. I had a idea to make the 1/10 scale boxes the same as the 1/4 scale, which turned out to be a mistake and time consuming, but in the end I am happy with the results. All of the boxes are made from Alaskan Yellow Cedar, it has extremely tight grain and is very fragrant, a true pleasure to work with.
I frequently get carried away and sink hours into making very minor details right. At some point I just have to call them done.
I Currently have 6 piece available for purchase, as shown in the photo below. I will post a few pictures of each and a brief description with price.
Matching set - 1/10 and 1/4 scale Ball Peen Hammers.
Ebony octagon handles - Steel heads - Alaskan Cedar boxes.
I am offering these two as a set. The rarest of my work, because there is only one set, and I will never make these again! I just thought it would be cool to make a miniature of my own miniature. I am happy with how they came out but it was a chore to make the 1/10 as crisp as the 1/4, down to the nails in the box. Both boxes have magnets under the fabric lining to hold the hammers down.

1/4 Scale Ball Peen Hammer #1
Steel head - Oak Octagon Handle - Alaskan Cedar box
This hammer was a experimental one of a kind. I wanted to mess around with a weathered look. I went trough many different methods of patina before I settled on this one. The head has some oxidation and patina, but the faces are clean. The handle is flame toasted White Oak. When I was selecting the fabric for the box I set the hammer on this navy blue with stars cotton and it looked right to me.

1/4 Scale Ball Peen Hammer #2
Steel Head - Huon Pine Octagon Handle - Alaskan Cedar Box
Another one of a kind piece, this hammer has a Huon pine handle and a blued steel head. The Huon Pine was sent to me from Australia by tool maker Chris Vesper. Huon Pine is a VERY special wood, only found in that region of the world. There is a tiny knot in the wood near the bottom of the handle, I left it in because it is in scale and does not look out of place. This one is crisp.

1/10 Ball Peen Hammer #1
Steel Head - Boxwood Handle - Alaskan Cedar Box
As mentioned above, these 1/10 scale super tiny hammers started as one of those messing around projects that went off the rails, and absorbed countless hours. The scaled down Cedar box took as long as the hammer. One of a kind.
The box is about 1.75” long.

1/10 Scale Ball Peen Hammer #2
Steel Head - African Black Wood Handle- Alaskan Cedar Box
Another one of a kind combination. Octagon shaped African Black Wood handle. It differs from the hammer in the set above because the handle on that one transitions to smooth near the top, this one remains octagon.

1/10 Scale Ball Peen Hammer #3
Brass head - Mountain Mahogany Handle - Alaskan Yellow Cedar Box
The rarest of the 1/10 scale series, because I only made one brass head. It has a smooth Mountain Mahogany handle. This one is my favorite.
